Support and Advocacy services are provided to survivors of Sexual Assault and their family members or significant others:
Children, Teens, Adults, Female and Male.
Statistics:
1. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.
2. 80% of sexual assault victims are under 21.
3. Over 90% of sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows.
What to do if you are a victim of sexual assault:
1. Go to a safe place.
2. Tell someone you trust, or call InCourage.
3. Seek medical treatment for potential sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy or other medical concerns.
4. Do not shower, douche or wash the clothes you were wearing, if you decide to get a forensic exam at the hospital.
What is Sexual Assault?
1. Rape or attempted rape.
2. Touching, fondling, kissing or any unwanted sexual contact, even through clothes.
3. Being forced to look at sexually explicit materials, or photographs.
Sexual assault is an act of power and control committed by family members, friends and strangers, It is NOT about sex. Sexual assault happens to men, women and children, regardless of age or sexual orientation. IT IS NEVER THE VICTIM’S FAULT.
What is Sexual Harassment?
Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, unwelcome physical or verbal conduct of a sexual nature. It can come in many different forms including, looks, jokes, graffiti on bathroom walls, invasion of personal space and grabbing.
Community Education
InCourage can provide presentations to schools, community groups, professionals and various organizations throughout the community. K-12 presentations are age-appropriate and can be tailored to fit the audience. Topics can include, but are not limited to:
Self-esteem and Dating Violence
Sexual Harassment and Bullying
Healthy Relationships
Protective Behaviors
